LATE MOHAMED SATHAK THAMBI – FOUNDING FATHER
Janab
Mohamed Sathak Thambi, the father of the founders of Mohamed Sathak
Trust, was a very noble and great Philanthropist, hailing from
the Kilakarai Village, Ramnad District, the most backward area
of Tamilnadu. He was the Chairman of Kilakarai Town Panchayat
during
Janab Mohamed Sathak Thambi, was instrumental in bringing so many
welfare schemes to the Village of Kilakarai during his Chairmanship.
He has donated huge sums from his own funds for various Community
Projects such as laying of Roads, Sanitation, Health Centre etc.,
ESTABLISHMENT
OF MOHAMED SATHAK TRUST
The
Mohamed Sathak Trust was established in the year 1973 by the Philanthropists
Mohamed Sathak family of Kilakarai and it was named after their
father (viz.,) Mohamed Sathak Thambi. Our Trust is registered
as a Society under Societies Registration Act of 1860 (Registered
as No. 336 of 1973) under Article 30(1) of the Constitution of
India.
AIMS
AND OBJECTS OF THE TRUST
The
Aims and objects of the Trust are to promote education of all
types and grades among the people in general and in particular
amongst the backward communities in the rural area with a view
to spec up the Liquidation of ignorance and illiteracy among them,
to take effective steps to disseminate scientific, technical and
cultural knowledge and to raise the standard of life and health
among the backward sections of the people in rural areas and for
the purposes aforesaid, to establish and manage schools, colleges
and polytechnics with a view to furthering the aims and objectives
of the Trust.
1. As a first step the Trust
started giving Scholarships from 1973 onwards to poor and needy
students for prosecution of higher studies.
2. The Trust has also donated a building constructed
at a cost of Rs.2.5 laks to the Kilakarai Panchayat Board. The
building has been named after the late Chairman Mohamed Sathak
Thamby and was declared open by His Excellency the then Governor
of Tamilnadu Sri Prabhudas B. Patwari, in the presence of the
Hon’ble Minister Thiru K. Raja Mohamed on 11.5.1978
3. The Executive Committee of the Trust decided to start
a Polytechnic at Kilakarai in order to promote Technical and Scientific
knowledge among the people and as a first step the Trust has purchased
50 acres of land on the East Coast Road of Tamilnadu. The foundation
stone of this project was also laid by His Excellency the then
Governor of Tamil Nadu Sri Prabhudas B. Patwari, in the presence
of the Hon’ble Minister for Rural Industries of Wakfs Thiru
K. Raja Mohamed on 11.5.1978. The function was well attended not
only by the people of Kilakarai, but also by the people from other
parts of the District.
4. Apart from the field of Education, the Trust has also
taken keen interest in the improvement of the place by way of
providing public amenities listed below
- The
Trust has started a Mini Health Centre at Mayakulam Village
by donating a building constructed for the purpose in collaboration
with Tamilnadu Wakf Board.
- The
Trust has also taken steps to improve the sanitary condition
of the village by playing the leading role in donation of
one Massey Ferguson Tractor and Trailer and the same was handed
over to the Local Panchayat Board in the presence of Hon’ble
Minister for Local Administration Mr. P. Kulandaivelu and
Thiru V. Madhavan Nair, I.A.S., Collector of Ramnad District,
in the public function held on 12th January 1981.
- An
Ambulance Van was donated by the Trust in the same function
to the Local Welfare Association for the use of poor and needy
people
- The
members of the Trust have provided a rent-free building for
the opening of Sub-post office in the Town, which is functioning
well.
- In
the year 2003, an Ambulance Van (Tempo Traveller) at a cost
of Rs.6,00,000/- as donated by the Trust to the Secretary,
Indian Union Muslim League, Ramanathapuram, for the use of
poor and needy people.
